Welcome to the Manawatū Whanganui Weightlifting Club!

MWWC Club Values

One of the major purposes of the MWWC is to develop the sport of Weightlifting within our rohe. Our key values are represented within our logo (shown below) in the three koru featured within the wings, and the three main koru in the tail of the Haast's eagle. Three key values feed into - and aid in achieving - this purpose:

Build Community

Through a common interest, we are able to bring people together. Creating a community of like-minded individuals to help build each other and the sport. This value is about building a community of people with a passion for the sport.

Strengthen People

Weightlifting is about strengthening ourselves to overcome an external load, facing a challenge and conquering it. This value is about strengthening people both physically and mentally, to face the challenges presented within and outside of the gym.

Grow the Sport

Through building a community of strong people, we aim to grow the sport of weightlifting within our rohe. This value is about growing the sport, which includes increasing participation, performance and the profile of the sport in our region.

Our commitment to te Tirity o Waitangi

The Manawatū Whanganui Weightlifting Club honours te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the values to te ao Māori (the Māori world), support kaitiakitanga, and are responsive to the needs of Māori. The MWWC supports the implementation of māori outcomes and promote the development of staff understanding and capability in te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, te ao Māori and te Tiriti o Waitangi so everyone can contribute to the delivery of Māori outcomes for and with Māori.

The Manawatū Whanganui Weightlifting Club Logo

The main MWWC logo contains several elements. Haast’s eagle (hōkioi or pouakai) is the major focus of the logo. The Haast’s eagle was one of the most fearsome animals to inhabit New Zealand, with a wingspan up to 3m wide and claws that could crush bones. As such, it represents the strength and power which we as a club seek to display.

On the upper edge of each of the eagle’s wings are three koru, while in the tail are three main koru towards the inside, along with two further koru on the outside. The three koru represent our three main values of “building community”, “strengthening people”, and “growing the sport”. Furthermore, these three koru represent the importance of the number three within our sport - i.e. three attempts, three judges etc. The two koru on the outside of the tail represent our organisations, the larger representing WNZ and the smaller representing MWWC.

Other elements within the logo include the loaded barbell, our establishment date and the club’s acronym. The circle encompassing the logo takes the form of the outer edge of a competition plate, further representation of our sport.
